A Study on the Normal Value for urinary n-acetyl-¥â-D-glucosaminidase Activities

Abstract
The author investigated urinary N-acetyl-¥â-D-glucosaminidase(NAG) activities in 77 workers exposed to lead and 61 official workers whose blood lead levels were lower than 40§¶/100ml in order to obtain the basic data for early diagnosis of renal
dysfunction by lead poisoning.
We had the following results from analysis of correlation between urinary NAG activities and levels of serum creatinine, blood lead, urinary lead, urinary ¥ä-aminolevulinic acid (¥ä-ALA) and blood zinc protoporphyrin (ZPP).
1. The mean value of blood lead levels in all subjects was 15.63¡¾6.65§¶/100ml and the mean value of urinary lead levels inthose was 22.3¡¾13.16§¶/100ml.
2. The mean value of urinary NAC, activities in all subjects was 2.80¡¾1.64U/l. The mean vlaue of urinary NAG1 activities, which calculated from NAG activity divided by urinary creatinine concentration, was 2.26¡¾1.25U/g creatinine. These values
had
logarithmic normal distributions.
3. Urinary NAG and NAG1 activities were increased according to changes of urinary lead concentration, but had no constant relationship with changes of serum creatinine, blood lead, urinary ¥ä-ALA and blood ZPP concentrations
4. Urinary NAG activities had significant correlation with only logarithmic values of urinary lead concentration (p¡´0.05¡µ, but urinary NAG1 activities has significant correlation with urinary lead and logarithmic values of urinary lead of
¥ä-ALA
(p¡´0.05¡µ.
